Solo in HK. I did all of 54 solo off single spawns or nobles in-between Netflix and hearthstone. Basically got lvl 55 by watching season 1 of punisher on Netflix.
It's rough level 54 technically requires more XP than level 55, 56, 57, or 58 individually. His suggestion is decent.

Gotta start thinking about loot / money, not XP.

Seb all the way. Start in ABC or Disco groups...or duo NG / random trash with a shaman.

I duoed Kedge very recently cle/enc with the hopes of this "awesome xp" and it was quite disappointing actually.

Did the ZEM get nerfed at some point? I took a break for a long while recently so I don't know exactly. I think this idea of Kedge being awesome xp is another P99 hot air/echo chamber phenomenon at this point. Its an awesome zone and nobody is ever there so that alone will make the bar move faster than somewhere you have to argue over scraps and get trained by nubs all the time.

Sebelis is honestly hard to get a group in more often than not. I fear you will end up making the long trek and then sit LFG for hours. HS is even worse unless you are a cleric/shaman/necro/enchanter and even then its dicey because people like to duo/trio and usually only invite friends/guildies. The entirety of the dungeon essentially broken to 5 or 6 camps which with the current meta supports like 10 players

For whatever reason (loot, hell levels, ???) on P99 the 'grouping scene' completely breaks down after 55. You can pug in KC but after that it becomes slim pickings. Sebelis and HS can be tough to 'break in to' and I imagine that has a lot to do with it since it is a pain in the ass for someone to even get to the camp sometimes. The hole is one of the best XP zones in the entire game, but you need a sh!ty key to get in + sh!t location = empty zone

You need to make best friends with a couple of shamans and necromancers or you will never hit 60 IMO. Necro/Monk is actually a damn good combo in HS and KC for a duo. Shadow Bond and Mend make for very little to no down time and it lets the Necromancer keep thier pet since it wont take damage while the monk is attacking. I group with Monks all the time in HS basement on my Necro and its about as easy as it gets (given that the necro knows wtf he is doing - HS can have a rough learning curve for new players not knowing what to expect)

Instead of waiting for invites or wandering around, do this.

Do what I did and delevel your monk back down. If you never hit level 54 you never have to grind through 54.

I never had trouble finding groups in sebilis honestly. Some nights it didn’t happen but just make a decent reputation for yourself. The same people will be grouping there the same time you’re leveling there for the most part and you’ll make friends with them and get invites. Learn how to get to camps without getting killed or training anyone. As a monk I won’t say it’s trivial but it’s very doable. Just be patient and just pass each group individually you want to limit the amount of casters on you at any given point. Being able to get to a camp without the group having to clear for you will get you into groups on that fact alone sometimes.

For 54 I did the level mostly in KC. It was slow but I left there with my metal pipe, a verix medallion, and because of that I didn’t have to go back unless I wanted to. It’s also a good shot at a t-staff. (As good of a chance as you’re going to get anyway).
