at level 16 4 ears gave roughly 10% xp

30 ears got me from 77% into Level 1 to 1% into level 5.

Quest is dead as far as XP goes.

There is an experience cap for every quest. Roughly 11%, so if you do this quest too low level you’re just throwing away experience. If you’re earning 11% you might want to wait a level.
