Well, let's see. An aggro'd mob walking very slowly is snared, which means someone got to it first. Or it's running at full speed instead of doing its normal strut for pathing, which means someone got it first. Or it's just standing in place even after you attack it with a spell or something, which means it's rooted, thus someone got to it before you.

Anyone mind clearing up how someone could attack a mob and not reasonably know that someone else got to it first? I'm just curious.

my thoughts are he engaged when we did and hit it first, however I have no idea, AC had just popped when I was running though

Okay, I'll actually buy this explanation. It's you and your friend as well as this other unknown player saw the AC at the exact same time, the unknown used a skipping stone, arrow, or similar impossible to see (at night) ranged attack only moments before your own attack, and then the unknown player thought to himself...
"Well, that guy's in trouble now! Time to burn him with a report and I'll get the ring without having to do any of the fighting. Awesome!"

Blue is a strange server with odd people on it. I wouldn't discount anything like the above happening.

nothing in ooc, no tells, no nothing, just a banned account followed by the response in the petition forms that there was an AC KS and it's awaiting removal of the ring from account.
