couple of notes right now...

the art is over stylized and too loud. There are too many objects which seem really important to the eye on the stragetic map. Some of the icons are too big, so the actual landscape and units feel less tangible on the map.

feels a lot more complex than civ 5 does during the opening rounds. It's nice that builders are expended.

Movement is generally slower on the minimap. Even scout units can't travel freely over rivers.

The upgrade system is improved. The tree is laid out similar to a talent tree in vanilla WoW. You can interweave and even just get the most basic powerups before getting the creme de la creme. I particularly enjoyed upgrading my scout.

Getting into Classical Era has more significance. The social policy tech tree is a big improvement imo and creates more opportunity for synergistic synchronization with your tech tree, productions, and objectives.

Objective system is a nice way to "speed up" the game. I find it's almost too easy to boost my techs and social policies. It happens automatically, even if you aren't researching that particular tech at the time. Perhaps this gets harder in harder difficulties. I played around on King with a friend.

Upgrading a unit also automatically heals it. No more burning upgrades for instaheal.

Overall, I don't experience the same dopamine fueled click frenzy that Civ 5 delivered. However, it seems like a really good game. I will continue playing it and hope to find the same levels of dankness I once discovered in the pits of Civ 5 addiction.

enjoyed the commentary and esp. the quoted part, agree.

it doesn't grab me like civ 5 does. But I think alot of that has to do with becoming familiar with the game's content and systems so ur brain knows how much dopamine to allocate per ingame event. Right now I am basically numb because I am not yet trained with what means what.

The mouse doesnt get excited bout the lever til he's been pumping it for cocaine water for a good 3 hrs.

It seems like a return to civ 4 style in a lot of ways (no global happiness, way more complexity in base game). Lot more promise in it than Civ 5 had at launch and that turned out fantastic. it's an exciting release honestly and i dont say that about many games, like i dont think ive said it since terraria. I was fully expecting shit and I'm pleasantly surprised.

I don't remember Civ 4 release very clearly at this point but I think 6 might be a better game than that was at launch. just sayin

been playing this more, the turn processing time is fucking retarded once you get to mid-game and the UI is annoying as shit. i am constantly moving the wrong unit because of how the game cycles thru units awaiting orders only sometimes, and with a good 3-second delay after you moved the previous unit.

Also I still have no idea what luxury resources do, I assume they have some bearing on amenities but when i trade for luxury resources my amenities dont go up???

I'll finish this save out and prolly repirate an updated version in 6 months. already on track to beat 1st game on Emp.

This is why I rather wait on new games, often until the first expansion or so. Or when they finish the game after release and the mod community FINALLY get the tools we were promised years before rather than the broken one at release. Nope, at the time of civ6 release, dumped my cabbage instead on RPG maker mv and the new medieval warfare DLC so I have a non-anime reference to scribble my own junk. Then Halo: spartan assault & strike (strike is way better, pretty fun, well worth the 3 bucks lol), and a few more pinball fx2 table DLC's - that plants vs. zombies table is a blast. No regrets [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

So true big dog nippon. A friend and I have both experienced the same difficulties with moving wrong unit. It proves disastrous and is far too easy to do.

There's also this issue where if you move your unit into unknown tile space, they will then attack an enemy unit that's there. In civ 5 their movement would stop when they saw an enemy and you would be given a chance to choose what to do from there. Civ 6 is lacking this and it has cost the lives of many scouts who walked into barbarian outposts. Sometimes, I tell one guy to attack an enemy and the response time is so slow i figure that maybe my turn hasn't started again, then end up fucking up the attack sequence.

Agreed with what you said about the brain knowing where to look for dopamine surges. Luxury resources in Civ 5 were steady dopamine sources. ANd as you say, what the fuck do they do in this game? I don't even understand amenity system yet.

I haven't had the desire to keep playing past Classical Era yet. I keep rerolling hoping that some combination of starting land or civilization leader will juice me up. It hasn't happened yet. It's never been easy for me to stop playing Civ.

And I'm comparing this to how vanilla Civ 5 was for me, even when I was a total noob at it. I didn't understand much of the game, but by god I felt damn fine charging down barbarian scum with my horsemen.

I do have to say that the increased threat of barbarians early on is quite compelling and fun. Early game military is more important than ever.

The civilization leaders art still is fucking disgusting. I really hate it. It's like the Creative Director said "we want it to look more like a GAME!" but then everything looks like shit. Cleopatra looks like she's undergone too much plastic surgery. She doesn't even look egyptian. I'm really unsettled by this horrible direction and wish I could disable it.

So far, I give this game a 7/10. It has a lot of intricate strategy, so much so that I feel like I'm blundering along blindly right now. But is it so good that it's addictive, robbing my life in that sweet, nefarious way Civ 5 did?

FURTHERmore, you can't rename your cities in Civ 6. Playing on Multiplayer as Congo and not being able to rename your capitol to N*ggerville or N3grop0l!s really ruins the game for me.

Oh man I ran into the attacking an off-map target too. Trade AI is also broken -- I have figured out how to trade any luxuries for 1gpt anytime a civ shows up with a trade offer...pretty embarrassing. You just shuffle the demands around and repropose and they always accept.

None of Civ 5's UI flaws were ever fixed which bodes pretty poorly. Hopefully these are severe enough to warrant attention.
