List invalid, missing Metallica. Metallica ranks around #3 of most influential metal bands ever, and certainly the top thrash metal band of history. Personal taste, they rank above the top two most influential metal bands of the widely accepted lists around.

And I wouldn't put any form of punk in resemblance of metal, may as well throw country in too. They only share roots, being from blues and then rock. Time scale may be the same as with most rock (common 4/4), but technique is completely different.

Manowar is like the personification of power metal and they were the world's loudest band at certain points.

No Cyber Metal? No Metal Core? No Emo Metal? No Lithium metal? No Steam metal?

You are lacking
I don't take any shit from someone who clearly skips leg day.

"Chose songs based on variety and somewhat lesser known bands."

That was the only reason why.

I don't agree with #3 but they are without a single shred of a doubt one of the most influential metal bands ever. And there a lot of idiots who don't realize this and even minimize their first 2 albums because of their later work. Metallica had a huge effect on metal and no thrash without them.

You're very wrong here. I agree that their formation was different but there has been influence on both sides.

Motörhead is widely seen as a metal band (Lemmy always claimed them as simply 'rock and roll') but Lemmy thinks they were more alike to The Damned for example (there's an interview if you want me to fish it up). It's one of the bands that both metal and punk fans liked.

Venom was very influenced by punk.

Metallica was very influenced by punk.

Bathory was very influenced by punk.

Sludge metal is very influenced by punk.

Then there is of course Crossover thrash, grindcore, d-beat, crust punk, street punk etc.

Punk band Amebix. No metal in their sound?

Punk band Charged G.B.H.

Metal band Bathory before their debut album.

Discharge?

Behemoth is a good suggestion for the black/death crossover stuff. I should add a post for that. I don't like Behemoth myself but "The Satanist" is a monster album.

WitTR is up there by the way. Feel free to add some scenes. If you're into WitTR you can post up some "Cascadian" black metal. US black metal scene deserves its own post. The Norwegian stuff is > all but the US bands have made their mark. Might get that it.

They had 2 more good records. AJFA was severely damaged by the production though. My enjoyment of the first 3 (especially KEA and RtL) > AJFA and The Black Album but they're still good.

DOOM METAL

Traditional doom metal

They retained parts of "metal" that most other metal bands shed. Very 70s music with a quite a direct lineage from Black Sabbath. Blue Cheer was also a very important band.

Happy to see no metalcore. One of the few genres of music I generally despise ^^

Lulz, can not agree with the politics and enjoy the music. Marduk would be the only applicable one on the list, so you're point?

Not a fan myself. Either way it's a fusion genre and doesn't fit.

The term is a quite broad though and it does include bands like Converge and The Dillinger Escape Plan. I do like them. But the bands that are generally called metalcore... yeah, not a fan.
