And if you don't want the forums sucking the life out of you, go here and get rid of this.

2. There are tons of low levels, alts and new players everyday, you shouldn't have any problem finding groups, in fact in peak hours its hard to find places to exp not people to exp with. The only problem you may have is with exp penalty some people refuse to group with hybrids because it ruins their exp.
Just for the record. There's a post in this section about xp and how it's divided. Hybrid xp penalities are applied after it's divided, and do not apply to the rest of the group...according to the post.

Kind of, not really.

The "XP Penalty" is a bit of a misnomer, or at least it's commonly misunderstood to mean hybrids receive less XP per kill than other classes.

Everybody gets the same number of XP points per kill, regardless of anything... it just requires hybrids more of those total numbers to gain the same percentage of a level. That's the penalty: hybrids need more XP.

So, if you're grouping with a hybrid that is the same level as you, that hybrid is sucking up more of the XP than if you grouped with a hybrid that has the same number of XP points as you (and would most likely be a lower level than you).

The referenced thread, btw: http://www.project1999.org/forums/sh...ad.php?t=24405

A same-level hybrid has more total XP and therefore eats a larger chunk of the pie.

You are correct if you base your grouping on level alone, which I think most do, because it's an easy identifier. Because splits are done based on total XP points, and a level 20 ranger needs a decent amount more total XP to be 20, than a level 20 warrior.

I guess to further clarify, the group itself gets X amount of XP, no matter what... but individual group members get varying percentages of that total X depending on who has the highest total number of XP.

1 - How "talented" are the players here? Question sounds ridiculous, I know. Some of my favorite memories of EQ are times when groups/raids took down content with far fewer people than it was originally designed for. Is this type of thing common on P99?
First, welcome.

In regards to the quoted point above, I actually think later MMO's have made many players much better than they were the first time around. I, personally have seen and done things that were simlpy not considered feasible in 1999-2000.
Stuff like duo'ing and trio'ing camps that were considered full-party endeavors 10 years ago. (I recently soloed most of the unrest basement at 35 as a necro, including Rucksif. I remember being 'scared' as a 4-man party on live.)
To the more epic scale: breaking into Fear with less than 10 people.
Coupled with the fact that the vast majority of players are returning EQ-classic players, I think the average player on P99 is of a higher caliber than they were back then.

Jeez -- you guys waste no time in hijacking threads!

Thanks Quellren and the rest of you who responded. Sounds like there are a lot of fun things to look forward to on the server. I just convinced my brother to start up with me in a week, so we'll see y'all in the new year.
