Not to discourage an original thought, but why gnome? You can have a tiny tank in the form of a halfling and get marginally better stats and a +5% exp boost to boot! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Halflings get a 5% XP boost that was supposed to go to Humans.

Warriors also get an XP boost, so Halfling Warrior is actually the fastest-leveling race-class combo in the game.
