Not to start a fight but if you are introducing a friend to EQ and playing with them use a voice chat. Also getting to lvl 5 isn't that hard even if you have no idea what you are doing.

Smack mobs get exp.

If your starting to beg already at lvl 1 then maybe EQ isn't for you.
If you have a character over level 5 on the account the filters don't apply. Starting out in Everquest without being able to ask players questions is a bit rough. Asking for starting plat for spells was just one of many examples I could make. Imagine trying to find a group. You have to keep in mind, I'm talking about how this filter affects brand new players, not people like yourself and I who have played this game for 17 years and know how to smack mobs in the first place.

Point I'm trying to make is GM's lost touch with new players and didn't look into how this filter would affect them, which is the same thing you're doing. It's easy to do. My point is, the chat filter only needs to exist on the red /ooc channel and in the EC zone on blue. It simply isn't necessary in any other zones and much lighter filters could block GG's spam if it ever became an issue in local chat channels.

Why shouldn't I be able to go over to a friend's house and introduce them to this game? Seems weird & antisocial to me.

They aren't going to change it Because getting to 5 isn't that hard.

And again there are more than just in game messages to help you get there. If you are over at the dudes house you can help hm get to 5 that much faster by saying hey go smack mobs.

As far as IP exempt think ahead if you want to go to a friends house or run the risk and VPN.
If you don't want to voice chat , sit behind him, talk to him on the phone, text, send him tells without him responding more than ok, ask questions below 70 chars and every 10 seconds.

I really don't see the issue. If I got a friend started he would be 5 in an hour and could talk like a hen in a hen house.

The amount of effort you put in this thread you could of gotten him to 5.

The amount of time I spent typing all this up while smacking mobs I've gotten 70%

This isn't about new players anymore though.

Nobody has time to do GM events for them, they're all stuck in conference calls with zerg guilds trying to lawyer up and move the goalposts for more pixel opportunities.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

I think if Sirken didn't try to end the call, they would be.
