Luclin
PoP

That's all ya really need after Velious. No need to make custom content when some of the greatest content already is available.

ya PoP is the best expansion EQ ever saw. Just add that and call it a day.

It would be pretty insane trying to do PoP with cap level 60 and no AAs. Now THAT is something to play for.

I'd actually be in favor of this. Not classic but it would be so awesome to try and it would give the neckbeards something to do 24/7. It wouldn't ruin immersion with cats on the moon crap, nor would it strip people out of the low end game to grind AAs forever on their mains. Also, the content was really good. This is a great idea.

Last night I was camping Pawbuster in KC for my Epic on the TLP and I was chatting in vent about why we all still play this ridiculous game and why people are so vile towards content after Velious/Lucilin/PoP. Best argument I heard was that it’s a symptom of World of Warcraft's success. The top MMO guilds all got lifetime subscriptions to WoW on release, Blizzard was passing out free beta keys to EQ guilds, and honestly their basic marketing campaign was “steal players from EQ and profit”. You had the top guilds and most visible players all run to WoW around Planes of Power era and it left a void in EQ. Coupled with the fact that PoP and beyond started getting really “hard” and much less “casual”, you had a mass exodus to WoW and EQ started to shrivel and die.

So long story short, people are obsessed with Velious and Lucilin and PoP because that is when the population was thriving. Its not the content people hate, it’s the community exodus and escalation of difficulty of expansions. It got to a point where Sony/Verant/Daybreak (whoever owned them) realized their hardcore neckbeard core of players all left and they were just punishing the “lowbies” by making ridiculous content that no one could be a part of.

Players who stayed through the WoW exodus will tell you that the expansions up till Gates of Discord are really fun and challenging. Velious era raiding is tank and spank zerg, not sure why we are all obsessed with 0 mechanic boss fights still.

a true "classic" server would capture the essence and experience of EQ - the build of suspense for the release of content. Freezing in Velious with nothing to look forward to is not classic.

The goal of the project is to emulate classic Everquest through the Velious expansion.

Therefore, there is no "logical" additional content.

It also does not provide any benefit to the server for people with multiple 60's to have "more things to do," they are not guaranteed paying customers, and while some may donate it could be assumed that without the forum toxicity stemming from high-level-guild-drama, more people would play '99, and thus more donations would flow in.

I posit that having the high end guilds burn out faster and quit (provided they don't RMT off) would actually be BETTER for the health of the server.
This comes up a lot but we can see if we click on the about Project 1999 page the below.

About Project 1999
Project 1999 started development in 2008, and was released in October of 2009. The mission of the project is to create the classic feeling that many had during the early days of Everquest during those time periods, starting with Classic content and releasing the other expansions and content on a similar timeline that was experienced on Live. The server will stop at Velious, at which point many options will be considered, including possible custom content that will maintain the spirit of the game, and/or an additional new server starting over at Pre-Kunark.

So Luclin and PoP were fun expansions, the thought that they would be out within a year and then two years would definitely kill some of the competition for Velious BiS gear, which will take longer than that to acquire if you have a life. Our server population would need to rise to fill a Planes of Power era world...it probably would too....people would want to customize this content though...plane of knowledge books must die.

The more I think about it, knowing the content that would come out with luclin the motivation for grinding out the large amount of content in Velious is alsmost zero would definitely just wait for Luclin to come out

Start a new server for Luclin and stick to classic timeline...my opinion

How about adding the missing Kunark clicky gear they neglected to create for NEC WIZ MAG ENC????

I want Solist's bracelet damnit with clicky see invis or something useful. Why does every other class get something neat?

Solist's Robe:
Must Equip Click Atol's spectral shackles 6 sec cast time
Solist's Pantaloons
Must Equip Click Paralyzing Earth 6 sec cast time

Make it happen.

The 50+ spells were supposed to be the "gear" for casters that melee classes got. The idea that everyone assumes you are supposed to have them at each level is a construct of years of Kunark play.
