I think I remember trying and failing to solo swarm mother in West on my live cleric.

You could easily be right, I never personally saw it in West but that certainly doesn't rule out the possibility. At any rate, the main thing was the event being confined to West and North.

Apparently on live this event was meant to culminate in opening a plane of disease, which was scrapped. Custom content??

Personally saw Swarm Mother in WK when I was on my low level wizard alt, ran the heck away from that... but now I wanna come back on a higher level if indeed it exists some items on her!
Also I saw Swarm Mother maybe half way through the zone along the roads
