Drakefall. I'd be very appreciative of the help! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Two of the aforementioned rings alone would cost approximately 500 platinum, which seems fairly mind-boggling from my perspective as a level 6 warrior.
Its really not that hard to get some platinum at low levels. The Sisters at Lesser Faydark drop bronze every time. Or get some mage to summon you some WR backpacks and duel corpse them when you log. You can make quite a decent amount by saving fine steel and ringmail/bronze from Unrest. Those aren't things you can do at level 6, of course, but by 20-25 its a reasonable goal.

What armor is this disclaimer referring to, and at what level bracket can I start acquiring some of it?
It's more actually referring to weapons, specifically Frostbringer, Infestation, and so on. Weapons will be your limiting factor in groups more than armor, because without weapons you won't be tanking anyway. But Coldain armor is far more accessible than Cobalt was in Kunark.

Not quite sure what you're getting at. I understand what WR backpacks are, but "duel corpse them when you log"?

Mage summoned backpacks are temporary items. Temporary items do not poof when you log **if** they are on a corpse. If you die in a duel, you create a corpse without losing XP. You can loot everything off the corpse except for those temporary items and they will be on the corpse waiting for you later. Corpse lasts an even 7 days iirc. Rez timer on duel corpses is like 6min if you duel like a million miles away from your bind.

If you're not new to eq and have a knowledge base making money for a starter set of gear that trivializes low end game play is actually very easy. If you're savvy this can be done starting at levels as low as 5-6.

Not being new to eq, by the time my bard was 16 I'd managed to get about 2-3k in gear under my belt just from selling belts, pads, greater lightstones and animal pelts.

The economy is old which translates to the really rare and awesome items having unobtainable price ranges for a new guy ... But there's also an abundant supply of medium tier gear that can be obtained very very early and at a low price considering that high level people will pay good money for things like belts to PL their new toons or faction grind with.

http://wiki.project1999.com/Jarsath_Trident

That item is a perfect example.

For 100p or less you can have a great ratio weapon that from a classic standpoint wouldn't have been available until your 50s. I remember running around with significantly worse on live, and paying more than 100p for that significantly worse weapon.

The age of this server works in your favor like that, but it might be hard to appreciate when you see level 10 twinks running around with 36% haste, exquisite velium weapons, and a fungi.
