I find that when my logfile gets extremely large, sometime I experience freezing like this. I think this is due to logging having to parse the entire file occasionally to find the end. Make a backup of the file in another location on your computer and delete the original - start fresh.

I've been plagued with this problem for months now...did anybody ever find a solution?

I fixed it. I had to delete and install the client from scratch but I think it was one or both of these things:

a program(can't remember the name) that read the log files and displays overlay timers for buff durations, etc

a player-built client patch that put in the original sky textures, night/day lighting effects and weather effects

I'm almost positive that it was the log reader that started it but I uninstalled it after one play session and the problem persisted after that. The log file kept showing messages about weather that coincided with screen freezes...I still don't know if it was caused by one or the other.
