`mithril legs and arms are much cheaper since Velious. `

aside from the plate look, isnt it more plat efficient to go for rygorr?

even, i guess tolans arms are half the price. Not so fashion victim maybe?!

Tolan's arms have no stats and a useless clicky.

But yeah, Ry'gorr armour is very good. I am not sure about exact prices though.

Those Crystal gauntlets from Velks are pretty cheap too and amazing stats.

You have some fairly easy options available to you if you are open to questing too.

On my ranger I use 2x cougar claw earrings*
2 x 55hp rings
ivy etched tunic, sleeves and legs. Orc impaler ranged**
hero bracer**
direwolf fur cloak*
iksar scaled gloves***
crested helm, dwarven work boots****

* (quest/drop from a 30+ ranger xp solo spot)
** probably soloable, for the steamfont parts you can probably get a rogue epic farmer to help you if you struggle
***(common rot at warslik's woods goblin fort, often given away)
****probably soloable by your enc, might even still be xp. Or low 30s groupable

All easily attainable, and more fun that sitting in EC imho

so indicative of the spoilt brats running around on this server.

Its clear from the OP that the lad doesnt have that sort of dosh to twink with.
Lol no shit. It's not so much about platinum on ranger, it's more about having the most possibly expensive items a ranger can wear. If you have all that stuff, you can get by without any plat just fine.

if you have stuff...you dont need (to buy)stuff?

thanks! would never have entered my mind in a million years...

Your thinking like some one in a raid guild; best in slot mentality. Seemed to me this thread was more about twinkage for casuals....?
Given the class of the lads main, I doubt he does have much gear he can transfer eg from silk to chain class.

He needs to decide if hes gonna be a fill in tank in grps (go for ac) or solo bow kite (dex).

In practise the latter dont work well on p99, esp under L50.

Solo melee with ranger is very hard work, needs at least one major item of gear to not be a bare foot pilgramage to Mount Kailasha ! eg fungi or mid range+ haste item.

in summary....roll a necro.

Solo ranger is easy for the first 40 levels.

200pp is all you'll need to spend to get to 40. A suit of banded and a 100pp ECmart weapon will suffice. Obviously more stuff is better, but not needed.

This is especially true now ranger has panic animal and sow at a much lower level.

Personally I went for decent, but easily attainable, AC. I used Str as a tie breaker. Probably shows in the gear list I posted earlier.

This is what I was looking for, as a filthy casual. Anyone who wants me to go roll a necro, thats like saying, just waste your time pursuing a business degree so you can be the CEO of your company BEFORE you make art/actualize yourself as a human being with agency in your communities.

Thanks so much for the information, guys. The armor is what i need help with, because i see Druids get stuff like this Brown Chitin Protector which is nuts good and nuts cheap. Are there any ranger-only armor pieces like this I should be aware of? it seems like (and would make sense that) rangers get ranger-only weapons like the Swarmcaller. But I wouldn't know! I'm ignorant of any armor out there.

Ry'gorr seems to be a really good choice. Although mithril wasn't that bad either; i saw the chest piece going for 300pp the other day. Seems pretty nice. But i am ready and willing to quest for gear too, in order to earn it. I managed to solo the iksar illusion spell quest, and the incandescent wand quest. Holy cow was getting that silver wand a journey i'll never forget. And im damn proud of myself for having achieved it!
