I'm seriously interested in how many people will go red to fight PvP. I for one am doing so. Someone make a thread with a poll or something.
Also, can you go back to blue after going red? Hope not.

It is hilarious to me the ego of people who think they have come up with an idea so brilliant that the thousands of people who play on this server, which strives specifically to be as strictly classic as possible, would embrace a massive change to something completely different for no reason whatsoever.
You realize there are other EMU servers with completely different rulesets you can try, right?

Because density of players at the moment allows for more groups. Player density will be high in the 45-50 range upon Kunark's release and thus more groups will be available.

This post hits on one of my greatest concerns - and that is whether or not gameplay progression changes are being kept in a 'switchable' state.
What I mean by this is that, for example, the opening of the Temple of Sol Ro and the associated game environment changes that occurred with that should be easily reversible/changeable rather than being hard coded in (or old code being replaced by new code). In addition, I am hoping that eventually the developers will release the database and server design to the public to allow others to start their own progression server (since for example I myself am already disappointed that kunark is coming out so soon!). I would assume that since EQEmu (the project that makes p1999 possible) is founded upon the concepts of open source, and since so much development time has had to have been spent since SOE never opened the game up to us, that the developers will in turn be fair and open their project publicly. This would allow those that wish to have a pre-kunark experience still have the option to. It would also allow the possibility of minor altered classic states. For example, an idea I have is to create phased worlds where when a character reaches 50 and completes all of the progression challenges, they have the option of flagging their ACCOUNT to progress, rather than the server - this would keep all old world content and economy intact for pre-kunark players, and only affect the economy/server of post-original players that choose to 'opt-in' once meeting the progression requirements. The hardware & coding adjustments necessary to maintain this sort of system would potentially be larger than p99 for an equivalent user base, but I think it would solve many of the issues that current progression servers face (such as big guilds rushing through and unlocking everything right away, ruining the progression for the rest of us). For something like this to be possible, however, the developers need to be making switchable changes to the code that deals with progression and balance, and not permanent replacements. If someone wanted to take the server back to day1 timeline and 'start over', they should be able to with an ini setting or a switch & recompile. Obviously though, issues that have been addressed due to them being rebalanced from eqemu's state to the 'classic' state should be permanent (such as removing luclin spells/drops, etc.) Just my 2cp :P
