Another route you can take is to upgrade your motherboard with a pci slot for your old graphics card, but have a pci x16 slot for a new card later. Look for one with a socket for an i5 processor or better. You will also have to upgrade your RAM, but that should be cheap.

If you have built systems in the past or are semi familiar with the do's and dont's of keeping your pc cleaned out, you might try over clocking. If you only open your case once every other year I wouldn't suggest overclocking.
well, good thing about the ram is i have 12gb of spare ddr3 laying around [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

do not listen to this guy(unless you buy a new processor as well)

SSD would be a very good buy for you. Echoing what the others said. AND it's still a nice part for when you decide to upgrade for realsies

Just to reiterate get an ssd drive.. if u can, a video card for cheap... and if u wanna roll the dice http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...condition=used those wolfdale cpus are still pretty decent. Really tho anymore u can get a pretty decent rig thats gonna be faster than anything u can upgrade to for 500 bucks so keep that in mind. you allready have 200 invested.

im gonna keep the CPU i have unless i can find a used one fore cheap thats better, other than that im just going to buy a video card that i can use when i upgrade to a new machine. i only play everquest really so what i have now works fine and streams well. atleast with a new video card i can play most games just not on high settings, which isnt a deal breaker for me.

well, im buying a video card for it, the video card will be an upgrade even if i dont get full power out of it. atleast this way i can still use it when i actually build a new machine, so im not really taking a loss.

What slot types do you have to work with? Pci I would guess.
