I don't know where the term pulling came from but it's not classic.
Having rolled a monk during classic release I'm pretty sure everyone knew what pulling was right off the bat and they were using different phrases like (lure, bringing, grabbing, ect) but none of that stuck. Pulling was just used by the majority, there were the few that would say something else but using the that funky sub window and 1 chat box I would frequently tell my group "pulling" instead of the other terms. You can find tons of people using the phrase pulling as far back as 1999-2000.

Indeed. The term "pulling" predates the existence of EQ.

I vaguely remember the /loot function in early classic as a function to allow someone to loot your corpse, instead of dragging. My father, who played at the time, got pissed off one day because a rogue looted his corpse and then camped down in Sol b.

They didn't keep that function in for very long if i remember correctly.

Does any one have a .pdf of an classic in box manuals?

There was a thread on reddit of someone scanning the Kunark manual but he never posted it. I would very much like to read it again.

Is there a pdf copy around? If not I have a hard copy I could convert with a little research. I'm big into preservation of things like this and I keep my manuals in perfect condition, not a single torn page after 15 years.

Yeah, back then /consent was a risky proposition. You had to really trust the person.

And when it didn't show what you looted from a corpse. "Oh, man, he must be bugged. He didn't drop anything!"

While the command allowed another person to loot your corpse was still in the game, it had deeper repercussions as a mechanic. After the Guise of the Deceiver had been nerfed but before the /consent mechanic changed, a person could kill their character to make an equipped corpse. Then you log to character creation screen. You delete the character. You then make a brand new level 1 character with the same name. Enter the game, and you could loot the corpse of the previous character, INCLUDING NO DROP items.

For some people this was a big deal in that they got a Guise on a character that they had 'buyer's remorse' over and really wish they were playing a different class entirely.
