Thanks for all the replies. So at least there are a few years remaining in it, possibly more with various variables in play. Sounds good to me. I set up the game and created an iksar necromancer. Had a blast with him running around getting lost, falling in the water, locating spell vendors, thinking warsilisk wood was the noob zone and then finally rediscovering everything making it to level 3. Antonica is my favourite though so i might create another character there and try that too. I don't find end raiding fun and it is the reason i stopped playing back in 2002 because it required too much of my time and there was a growing loot obsession. This time i'm just going to have a laugh and do what i can when i can. Thanks again for all the input folks.

A lot of people are playing here precisely because there is no race, the server is locked at Velious, and people can take their own sweet time playing in a gameworld that is fun at level 5 and level 55. Just jump in and have at it. Play at your own pace. Explore what you want to explore, make friends, and maybe someday you will even kill a dragon!

My 2 cents;
There will always be a strong base of players here, new and old. The reason is because p99 offers something that you can not find anymore. A good hard core MMO where you have to be social, think, plan, be friendly, etc. Most players like myself are just sick of the boring, easy, "instant gratification", and entitlement based MMOs that are popular now days. Sorry if that sounded like a rant.

It is certainly not too late.
This morning I was killing things in the newbie yard in West Freeport with my level 2 Bard and I grouped with a couple of level 1 Monks. I mentioned that I'd just started playing Project 1999 yesterday, and they each replied that they had started this morning. | ||

I have decided to stick with DE Necro after trying Iksar Necro. I never really liked Kunarks noobs zones and Antonica was always my favourite i guess because i started pre kunark back in 99. Having a great time. I completely forget that i am playing on a server that is set up as a not for profit. Kudos to the folks running it i'm impressed. Already people stop by and buff me sometimes and are generally polite. Good community. My characters name is Nemutai if anyone wants to say hi. I used to play a barb war on brell back in the day.
