Ah! I was thinking "Xabekn fades away."

Thank you.

Xabekn (pet level 35) level 44 spell, in Frontier Mountains with a Broom?

Did I win?

I would like to necro this post with some additional evidence. I see nilbog had previously put his foot down here:
https://www.project1999.com/forums/s...94&postcount=7
Quote:
No, beneficial 'wear off' messages are not classic.
The previous photos linked were not exactly time stamped, although I am of the belief that at least some of them are classic due to the UI as Daldaen mentioned.

I found a post that is dated 9/23/2000 which talks about burnout buff messages wearing off:
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthre...&t=5655&page=2
Quote:
A while later, I look up, and see if the spawn is up. no spawn, but it should be soon. so I buff Jobaber with Burnout 2, and put my nose into more paperwork.

a while later, i look up, and still no spawn. odd.. shoulda been popped by now, but i fugure it's just me being antsy. thats when I notice a few little words on my screen. "Your pet's Burnout II spell has worn off" ummm.. uh oh, that's not good, BO2 is a 20 minute spell. spawn times in Perma are 19. I was getting a little confused, but didnt want to go pull things and have the arch pop on top of me.

I look up from my paperwork later, to no pop still, and my pet's second BO2 spell gone.
The poster is talking about using his pet buff message as a timer on the spawn, it is not a log entry but has the correct phrasing.

I'm sure I can google harder for more information if need be. I did find a reference in mcoy's log which is at the very least in the Luclin era if we want to try and narrow the window down:
Quote:
[Tue Jun 25 04:08:57 2002] Your pet's Infectious Cloud spell has worn off.
This was from his wizard, and I think it may have been from his familiar during an AoE, but the message remains. If he had any pet class logs to share with me I could do some more searching (he only shared monk / wiz / cleric).

Let me know if more information is needed in this regard or if pet wear off messages are just something you aren't interested in implementing (I wouldn't want to waste my time searching if it was ultimately voted down).

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what a 'beneficial' spell is... Burnout is definitely a buff, but I think originally it like self destructed your pet so may have been flagged differently? The invis message is hard to argue though.

I wanted to dig back through some of my old archives of screenshots and found a pretty big smoking gun that pet buff messages were always classic.

Here is a link to a screenshot archive:
https://web.archive.org/web/20010729...misc_photo.htm

Note that the wayback date is July of 2001, but there are older images.

Go to the bottom and under 'Xzandar' images, click on '2. Reaching lvl 50'. The image link will jump to a 2003 archived version, but the original link name is :
https://web.archive.org/web/20010729...ing_lvl_50.jpg

Here is a new hosting of the image:

A message is shown saying:
Your pet's Pact of Shadow spell has worn off.

The UI is older but I believe was still active / supported in Luclin, however look at the wording on the level gain:
You raise a level! Welcome to level 50!

That is an older version of leveling text, I know from later log files of mcoy's that it is what we see now:
From his 'Expired' character name log:
[Sun Nov 11 15:33:53 2001] You have gained a level! Welcome to level 21!
From his 'Qien' character name log:
[Mon Dec 03 07:56:18 2001] You have gained a level! Welcome to level 52!
[Wed Dec 12 01:41:33 2001] You have gained a level! Welcome to level 52!
[Sat Jan 26 23:51:09 2002] You have gained a level! Welcome to level 53!
[Wed Jul 10 21:17:02 2002] You have gained a level! Welcome to level 55!

If you even look at a later image in the series here:
https://web.archive.org/web/20040706...ne_of_hate.jpg

He has gained experience into the level, and I do not even see a blue bar in the experience bar (he appears to have slight yellow into next bubble... the nipple as we all called it back in the day).

But MOST importantly, there is a line of text that is not indented after it wraps. This was a change in the 8/9/2000 patch note during Kunark:
Quote:
Text messages that wrap will be indented on subsequent lines. This means that if a person or NPC says something that is more than one line long, all subsequent lines will be indented a few spaces. This should make it a lot easier to pick out separate messages.
So at the very least these messages were in place before this patch, if not since original release of product.

Is this still an open issue? I don't believe you've added these back in as I remember not knowing if some of my mage pet's buffs wore off or not.

Hopefully this will eliminate any doubt about the messages?

Just a follow up, tracked down some info on the "raise a level" text change.

7/2/01:
Quote:
Hey Joe,
If you're out there, I've been having a problem with the log
parser. *It seems that Verant changed the level gaining message from "You raise a level! Welcome to..." *to "You have gained a level! Welcome to ..."*
I would put my money on this occurring in the 6/27/01 patch:
http://www.tski.co.jp/baldio/patch/20010627.html
Quote:
We've addressed a lot of spelling and grammatical errors over the past few weeks. For example we have corrected all misspellings of "deity" in messages to the player, changed Cantana to Cantata and others.
Timeline matches up with the newsgroup post, they also patched the "could not get any worse" faction messages in that patch, which are mentioned in the same newsgroup post.

Not sure if that was ever implemented on p99, but here's hoping it will be for refresh!
