as aggrevating as this may be i still vote keep it like it is because , yes tihs is exactly how it was in classic. my suggestion is ooc for camps a couple times before yo continue, if the ppl dont answer then congratualations you just experienced another bit of eq nostalgia, when you arrived, the game you loved to hate. You know, this woe of yours can easily be avoided by asking if anyone is camping something in OOC.
I don't know about others but when I'm in a group I don't tend to read /OOC chatter. I do however respond to camp checks in /shout (which I know does not solve the issue).

Right now only around 1/4th of the players are /anon and its already pretty bad with you having to run to the actual zone to see if the camp is taken. Everyone who is ok with this imagine this scenario. If tomorrow everyone went /anon and ignored all CCs it would ruin the server. Now you have to run to a zone and clear to the actual mob to see if the camp is free. Lets take it one step further and everyone just hides and makes themselves invisible until 10 seconds before the mob they are camping spawns. Now you have to run to the zone clear to the mob and wait for it to spawn to see if its camped.

Have fun spending 2 or 3 hours to find a camp. I know it already takes me about half an hour and 2 or 3 teleports to find something for me to kill during peak hours and I am a druid.

I think it's fine. Suck it up. If you think it eats up too much time because you're a super casual player, then maybe you shouldn't be worrying about camps until the weekend.. or shouldn't be playing EQ at all.

this new anon thing. /who all oot (2) lvl 24's. Run there...3 anons camping Alliz. Okay /who all gukbottom (completely empty) get there...5 anon enchanters camping the entire zone. Really a HUGE waste of ppl's time so that a couple guilds can raid w/o the other knowing where they are. Anyone else feel the same way or should I just STFU?
You know.. / all <zone> wasnt' even classic. so be thankful you can at least see the non-anon people!

Someone that's anon is anon for a reason and most likely isn't going to respond to a camp check. That said, this argument is trivial, be thankful you can even /who a zone at all.

But, you can make a decision on whether to make that long run somewhere based on the knowledge or who is in a particular zone (whether or not they would respond to a camp check). If you can't see folks that are anon you end up running a long way for nothing. Agree with OP on this.

I say stop trying to burn the immersion. I, as well as some others probably, remember running half way across Antonica to get a camp that was already taken. There was no sure-way to tell back then and that's what made it fun. The mystery and adventure of it all.
