One of my favorite memories from playing on live: When I got the share wolf form spell on my druid I went to the lifts in Gfay and turned a bunch of newbies into wolves, and did the same at the wall in Misty. Even handed out some scarab armor pieces to the Halflings.
About a year or so later, a player sent me a tell thanking me for that day. Said he saw me run by him in game just then and remembered how much it meant to him when he was starting out. I figured I needed to do more of that kinda stuff here. So I spent some time during double xp weekend buffing and binding newbies at West FP gate. New players excited just to be playing on a classic server with people that don't mind helping.

I don't really want free items or plat, im having the most fun in gaining the money to just buy better food atm. I'd rather just have someone around to chat with, always liked that about EQ. I met an awesome gnome mage there, named Gelfan or something, he made me summoned items. Wep, OH, neck and a few 4 slot bags, that helped me more than anything =)

If you want to help noobs you can definitely do it without giving things away. Buy their cb belts, pelts or silk. Give them buffs, ports or binds. Or just give them some advice.

I will not deny the majority of the community here are great but I think the best are those who take the time to help us newbies understand the game again.

As a newish person, I for one have loved the attention given by veterans in the newbie zones [You must be logged in to view images. So thanks to the people who do that and try to help. For every one player who just accepts the handouts without seeming appreciative, there's at least one who is and hopefully you guys know that [You must be logged in to view images. I frequent GFay to bank and I have to say that I enjoy the nubiness of the zone. Many times I give nubs free ports, binds, and advice. I am a master Baker and when I was leveling my baking I was handing out Birthday Cake Slices and Wedding Cake Slices like crazy and nubs (and non nubs) alike were amazed. I don't hand out Pixie Powder Cinnestix, I keep all those for myself =)
I also always end up running into people out when I do WK/Qeynos evacs that have a refreshing innocence and absolutely no clue about the ins and outs of P99. I'll often times find myself "catching people up" on server drama after long breaks etc. I will agree that the nubs and the odd role players and start-from-scratch players are a very important part of the server. I always make sure I am friendly to nub and hope that our community grows in a positive way. And the whole Red v. Blue thing - after the various pixel lust and nonsense I've seen from many different people who are willing to go to the ends of the earth to rule lawyer and manipulate both guild DKP and server rules for their own gain (and are absolutely unwilling to play on Red where you actually have to stake your claim in PvP) I have a very hard time believing that the Red community is any more "toxic" than Blue. Its all hot air and the blown up Crushbone griefer stories. To me stupid camp disputes and people sleeping in shifts to hold cash camps for days are usually shistey and always a big manboy "nanna-nanna-boo-boo" situations | ||
