Yes, it is punishing by today's standards but makes it more rewarding in some ways. Many of us here are masochists as well. You are on the money about people actually talking here, not something that happens in the current iteration of WoW or games with "speed runs". I tried WoW again, which I haven't played since launch, and the lack of communication in the dungeon finder pugs was so disturbing that I quit after my free month. The good ole days are still here on these servers thankfully.
