The useless actions do serve a purpose for good players, they spam actions to keep their APM up so that they don't have to speed up and slow down as they play.
Still sounds awful. A good competitive game punishes you for making unnecessary actions - not rewards.

And in a real SC2 match you would be fucked if you spent your time hovering over the map listening for footsteps.
Fair enough - we'll chalk this guy's idle time up to lack of skill. I suspected this was more akin to a bad player quickswitching constantly in CS or something anyway.

company of heroes is a way better RTS anyway. Constant harassment (map control = resources), zero emphasis on building/resource management as a central tenet of the game, cover system etc.

There's been almost no skirmishing/harassment in this SC2 stream so far, and both sides have 100+ pop armies now. Granted, the players may suck too bad to be harassing properly, but either way the game is playing more like a game of Sim City with a big unit showdown at the end than a good RTS.
It's hard to appreciate a good meching terran if you know nothing about the game. It is more of a turtle-ish style. If you can follow the player's thought process and you know what their opponent is trying to do, there's a lot of strategy involved. It is my favorite race/style to watch.

fair enough brethren. i don't know shit about what good SC2 play looks like.

Resource/building-heavy RTS are still awful though. just look at the mad bads that came out of the woodwork when I stepped to this shitty game [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Going to stream again tonight in an hour or so. I hope you come and watch again big_japan, I would like to hear your thoughts on:

- clicking stuff
- stupid music
- how company of heroes is a superior game because you dont click stuff
- sim city (I love Sim City btw)
- watching the fog of war listening to footsteps

and any other topic you want to discuss!
