i dunno if youve seen the movies or not, but it doesnt go too well for Agent Smith.

(i know, i know. should have used spoiler tags)

Some truth to this. On EQ Live, staff were for the most part invisible, apart from Server GM's such as Lady Daegarmo, but even then, you would rarely if ever see them, and never engage with them in dialogue on a forum. Most offenses were met with polite tells from a Guide telling you to stop Action X or suffer a possible warning or future action. Only the most severe of all acts such as shouting the n word repeatedly, egregious intentional trains [not 2 frogloks that followed you to a 60 v 60 pvp by accident], cheating/hacking, were ever met with instant suspensions, and even then the staff would first port you somewhere and discuss with you why they were taking action against you if you were online.

Being banned was something that was hard to accomplish on EQ Live, the same with being suspended. Here, simply looking at someone the wrong way will result in a 7 to 14 day suspension.

The way staff and players interact with one another is just completely different than it was on live. Staff were not allowed to use internet slang, get involved in arguments with players, curse, etc. They were "above" the fray so to say. It is my personal opinion that staff should have little to no presence on the forums, should not be skyping players, IMing players, etc. They should observe actions in game, and act accordingly, notify the player as to why they are taking said action, and then have an appropriate review method in place.

While staff are volunteers, so were guides on EQ Live during the Petition Era, which remained in place throughout the classic timeline this server strives to emulate.

Unfortunately staff here have to monitor 2 servers and are ignorant (for lack of a better word) to PvP nuances.

They promote their web channels and try to be popular figure heads rather than rule unbiased and just.

Unfortunately everything is inconsistent and is left to the gm's discretion, precedence means nothing and 75% of the back-channels are in Skype.

A picture book of screenshots and paint brush writing is enough to bait a suspension against someone in a suspend-first-explain-why-later (if the suspended is even lucky enough to get an explanation). There is no appeal process. If you express dissatisfaction your sentence is either increased or petition totally ignored.

At which point the petition forger has already won and the GM is beating his chest.

This is not directed at any person in particular.

If i may interject here. I was banned for a week for something I did not do, appealed it; Sirken went through the logs and exonerated me. He then apologized, assumed fault, and unsuspended me. I know this is one situation in a plethora of petitions but sometimes they get it right. Sometimes Sirken gets it right rather.
