If you want to tank roll a warrior, simple enough. You'll regret it later otherwise.
When Velious comes out a Warrior is just about the only way to go, and a Cleric to heal it. Their damage mitigation is over the top compared to every other Melee class. That is why a Ranger, Bard are really pretty bad at tanking. They can, but they are a total mana sink.

Pally just has no DPS to speak of and a SK is not a lot better. Warriors with good gear with good AC on them have a TON of HP and that is what matters. Complete Heal is the only heal to use in Velious other than a smaller one for the Casters. Clicky Stick is just too slow to cast to use in a fight. Pally, SK make good pullers in Velious, and can take a beating on the way back compared to a Monk, so they will be used more than Monks in some situations.

But play whatever class you want. It is a LONG grind to level 60. Sucks playing some class you are not good at or don't really like. It is your toon, enjoy it. Your the one that has to play it. I tank on my ranger and I'm not a mana drain.

But warriors have no agro control (of course that means the rest of the group has to control theirs). That's why pally/SK make a good choice for non-raid situations.

After the hybrid XP pen drop or before? Because before your going to really feel the crunch of that XP pen + gear dependent classic EQ punch in the face. I would, like others said, lean toward a semi ok solo class first.

This is also good advice. That experience penalty can definitely be felt as early as the teen levels if you are soloing. In a group setting, its not really a big deal, although it may be discouraging to see your friends/group members leveling faster than you.

Then again, if you are not in a race to 60, enjoy the class you most want to play.

I was thinking about now, wasn't too worried about Velious as its only 5 or 6 weeks away from the home page on here?

I like Berserkers the best hands down. Those big number crits are just the bestest lol. But a warrior maybe the next best thing? I'm just torn lol.

Rangers seem to have quite a bit of utility also and I haven't seen alot of them just yet but again I have only played 8 hrs or so.

And your not the damn Cleric that has to heal you sorry ass either lol. You can't really believe what you wrote is really true unless you are level 10. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I do believe it is true, I haven't had anyone run under 50% much less run oom unless there is a bad pull.

Hi y'all, been awhile since I have played some EQ (started with Kunark and finished just after PoP or so). Anyways I am looking for some advice to start a main on.

I usually play a melee dps or tank class. I was leaning towards SK, Paly, Rogue, or Ranger but I am open to suggestions. Warriors would be fun as well, I just don't remember how hard it will be to get groups on P99.

Any input is greatly appreciated!
If you plan to group a lot, then all of the above work well.

If you plan to raid, then Rogue, Ranger, and Warrior are all very much needed in Velious. SK and Pally become off-tanks / off-dps, but still have their uses.

If you plan to solo, then SK and Ranger are best here. Pally can solo undead reasonably well. Warrior requires some decent twinking, and will have long downtime. Rogue is the same.

Hope this helps.

Well said. Good advise.
