Thanks for all the info =). my mage is almost lvl 9 now. think i will stick with the mag eeven tho necro is tempting for farming money. i tried a warrior again today, and its insane trying to solo with one =/. so i think ill keep my mage till i have some gear for my warrior. once i do tho ill be rolling around on my human war!

I don't think you EVER want to play as a warrior. No matter now well geared they are, they're not meant to solo.

Also, why the focus on solo? Lots of groups out there.

It's a great fallback plan. Times have changed, not everybody thinks sitting around LFG for 30mins is still acceptable. I remember spending 2 hours looking for a group on live and just logging until raid time because I couldn't find one. I would certainly never want to do that again. When you have the option to solo for xp at least you have something to do while you have downtime.

I've been bringing a warrior up as my main, and yes it is a struggle. At this early in the game, there's only a few weapons that are desirable for warriors in order for us to fulfill our classes expectations. Some of these (PGT, Gnoll Hide Lariats) dont have too high a cost, but towards the end game there's pretty much only one weapon to go with (Yaks). Without one of these choice weapons, you're going to struggle to keep agro. I've thought many times of rolling a farming alt just to keep up, but I've yet to do it yet.

Going shadowknight for just that reason. Sure I wont be a raid tank, but ill be able to tank for groups / farming / whatever. Without the dependency of needing a very limited few weapons.

Should make the ride up a bit more enjoyable, for me at least. Plus as stated its always nice to be a capable soloer if there is any downtime between groups.

I just think it sad when the community recommends leveling up an 'easy' class to farm with, twink out your main, just to make it slightly easier for him to level.

If class balance was this wonky, why did we love Classic so much?

I never really have issues with groups. Start grouping, add people to your friends list. I see tanks and healers LFG allll the time. Send em a tell and chances are they will be glad to join. Sometimes you get a snoody solo class that won't join unless you are clearing frenzy + half the zone + are willing to give them a handy.

There are a fair amount of players that really just care about solo'ing or playing the most powerful class. hey, that's fine and all but i think you are missing out on the classic experience if you go that route.

End game i really do want to be a tank. i love raiding and thats what i did while i was on live years ago. Soloing isnt an option for warriors and i really dont want to beg people for buffs/PL while im on my warrior. i love grouping, but i want to be able to tank and not die very fast in no gear lol. =)

Naked melee is a very rough road.

The smart ones do it because it's an investment with infinite returns. You can't think so short-term. You get a farm class so you can fund the warrior you really feel like playing today. Chances are, you'll do one of two things with that warrior: Hit 50, get bored, roll another alt or decide against the warrior, roll another toon. Either way, it's quite likely you won't gear out just one toon, and at the very least you'll wish you had platinum to spend. Make a farm toon first, find yourself set for the rest of your EQ "life".

My first toon on live was a ranger, it was hell. I was broke, struggled, and hated grouping with twinks because they made me feel inadequate. I made my enchanter here first, now I've been able to twink 3 toons in the time it would have taken me to gear just that ranger in a comparable fashion. Farm toon > Fun toon if you are a power-gamer who wants flexability. If you are a casual who isn't even sure you'll even hit 50, then do I suggest just playing whatever floats your boat. In that case, you might as well just enjoy your limited time.
