Seems like there is no real standard then. Just figure it out up front.
autosplit - as I said, it had long been viewed as inequitable since it splits coins. Main looter - this is the best, but does not work well for PUGs IMO, especially when people frequently come and go. There's also the "trust" issue in PUGs.

HHK goblin groups do alphabet looting rotations for the ears. Most do /random on the 50pp large bricks that drop

I always ask when i join a group. Some people are not interested in looting at all, others are.
Mostly I see FFA and randoms on valuable items. My HHK basement group did alpha loot until you got a goblin ear then the next person in the rotation looted, what worked fairly well.

Once you loot a corpse it will disappear on your screen even if it still has items on. /hidecorpses allbutgroup will hide every corpse in the zone (except for those of group members)

Things like crushbone belts are on rotation. Gems/vendor jewelry are sometimes but typically randomed. All auctionable loot should be rolled on regardless of NBG. Almost everything gets upgraded at some point which makes it a "greed" ultimately.

In my experience groups generally do not discuss loot and hints just roll FFA with /randoms on rare drops and alpha on quest drops. You will encounter many people who do not loot at all. I tend to play clean-up like aseth, looting everything on any corpse that has around a minute or less on the decay timer. Best practice is to ask how loot is being conducted when you join.
I hate autosplit and find many others do as well. Just my 2cp ^^

Set up a /split 0 0 6 0, /split 0 0 0 6 hotkey and spam on it to dump your small change on your other group members if they all go afk.

To the OP: need before greed is the exception, not the rule on p99. Valuable drops get /random. I would make a rule, that no one can win two items until everyone has won one, and to keep the crying to a minimum, an earlier winner can /roll to trade up their item if the item they won is of less value than the current item up for roll. This rule may seem sad, since on live years ago NBG was the norm, but there are players who will say they need an item, sell it the next day in ec, then be back in the same camp the enxt night, saying they need that same item. It's how people are today; I believe the kids call this "winning." Or maybe that was Charlie Sheen. Or Gorden Gecko. So, short version: everything gets random'd because you cannot trust people on this server to not actually sell the thing they say they need. At lvl 55+, I've seen a super rare 100k shaman spell go to a monk alt on a /random, even though there was a shaman main in group who needed that spell and had been camping it for a week. Welcome to p99. It is mellower at lower levels, though.
