What is the typical policy for such an instance where a purchased MQ has failed? Is the risk taken on by the buyer or seller usually?
as a seller, i eat the cost. i imagine thats common across the board

This.

I generally require payment upfront but in the event of a failed MQ (only failed MQ I've ever had occured on my own Monk though), I would return the platinum since you didn't receive anything.

With the current code it is common for the Rogue Epic, Monk Epic, and Monk Robe to fail. Quest NPCs remember their turn in history for an eternity. Even in the instance of the three I list above... Stanos, Kaiaren, and Brother Balatin, if you were to kill these mobs and let them respawn, they would still remember a partial MQ that failed. (This is what screwed up my Monk's epic)

This is incorrect and something the Devs are looking at trying to fix. But right now there isn't anything you can do to make sure the NPC you are turning in to has an empty quest-turnin-memory. They could remember being given an item 2 weeks ago after having died and respawned several times inbetween. Assuming no one completed the quest or the servers didn't go down.

Yup, It's super lame when it happens but there is no way I could feel good about taking someones plats if they didn't get their epic. I once had a guy turn the dagger into Anos instead of Stanos. Luckily I had a friend who had spare dagger that I could buy for the poor guy. But it was a stressful few minutes for both the guy buying the MQ and for me...

At release. Rogues did not have evade or any aggro reduction ability for 11 months. Weapons and itemization for rogues were subpar.

Rogues quickly and vastly improved Kunark onward.
Also, hide and sneak didn't work together, and there was no such thing as a minimum backstab either. Rogues would land backstabs for 1 often. Now the formula for levels 1-50 is minimum backstabs are equal to the rogue's level, further increasing at levels 51, 55, and 2x level at 60. I think.. the multiplier at 51 is 1.25 and 1.5 for 55.

The best invis in game, evade, and backstab minimums massively improved the class. But, as Elethia said, rogues were horrrrrible to begin with.

Yeah as far as the mob inventory thing goes, I'm pretty sure my petition to get reimbursed for that happening to one of my MQs is the reason why the staff won't offer support for MQs anymore. I don't feel bad about that. Seriously, screw all of you rampant rogue MQ sellers. You cause horrible discrimination against legit, new rogues without epics and overall reduce the talent pool of the once under-played class. This is mainly directed at Culprit who sold literally 100s of them, but I'm pointing my somewhat hypocritical finger at the rest of you jerks too.

Fwiw Cecily, we spoke over a year ago (maybe even 2) when my rogue was still very young. You probably have no recollection of the conversation, but I was LFG in MM when you happened to see me (another Wood Elf rogue) and said hello, commenting on my race selection.

We talked for a bit about rogue stuff. You taught me the mechanics of sneak pulling for example. You also inspired me to work on my epic myself rather than save up and buy it. Even though it took ages, doing it was well worth the wait. I am very proud of my work even if the rogue epic is super easy by comparison to other classes. For that I thank you [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

To put my situation in perspective, my only lvl 60 is my rogue. My next highest toon is a 35 pally. Pretty much my only two options for making plat are grouping in Seb and selling a few rogue epics. I haven't sold one yet either fwiw.

Even though I remember dealing with discrimination a few times for not having my epic and despising those who bought their epics at lvl1 while I had to wait until my 50s, I hope I'm not judged for trying to make due with what I have at my disposal.

I've never helped for a Brother Z or Q kill for the same reason. But I have MQ'd pipes before.

I also mildly shit-talked (made a comment about questing mine like a sucker) to a TMO Brother Z kill at NK zoneline about 6-8 months ago. I think you guys (you were there) were either getting a robe for an unguilded alt or selling a kill.

I always rag on my guildies for not earning the RotLC the legit way. But I've also sold MQs of RotWF. I understand the "somewhat hypocritical finger" comment too.
