I actually tanked for a few groups in the Kunark-Velious era as a monk, and it was fairly effective.
The problem is that the aggro monks build is very gradual (although fast) and therefore they lack the ability to rip aggro from others in bursts - i.e. disease cloud for SKs and stuns for paladins. If Taunt worked correctly, that would be the warrior's advantage. However, any monk worth their salt knows to FD periodically to make sure the designated tank is taking the hits...

lvling crunchy up i had no problem tanking+pulling from level 5 to level 50. the only problems i encountered were closed minded players lol ;_; hell if you got the puller, tank and dps all in 1 why bother with a sk/warrior/pally? ;D

Pulls come faster when you have a separate tank and puller.
I don't think Monks are broken. I always remember monks hitting hard and taking aggro. It's especially worse when they are a couple levels higher than the tank. But with a monk who's close to my level I can still take the majority of the hits. The same can be said about rogues. Get a rogue who's well geared and has like 3-4 levels on me... I may as well just break out the 2H for DPS.

I know that tanks have problems with monk aggro since taunt doesn't work on mobs higher level than the tank.
But does pet taunt? | ||

Is there any data on how much hate monk abilities generate? Someone told me to never use tiger strike in his group because it generates huge agro once, but i never validated the claim.

Quote:
None of the monk special abilities generate "more" hate as a general rule - they usually do more burst damage than single attacks (and more damage = more hate), but no additional hate beyond that.

any old time monk should have this hot key:
/attack off /fd /stand /attack on could add an assist in there after stand. some had a pause added after fd, I never did. Use this every couple secs or so. with no /pause used the dps loss is nothing and you constantly go down on the list. A good monk only gets aggro when they want it. I should have said use this key everytime fd pops
