VP lava is different from the rest of the lava in the game
everywhere else you can get lava down to a minimum of 10 damage/hit with around 120 fire resist but VP lava hurts real bad i imagine the lava damage difference is a result of when they revamped VP in 2004

I imagine its a result of it being stock eq emu and needing the wrench taken to it like every damn thing to bring it up to p99 quality standard
I doubt very little is correct just out of the box from the source

39 DMG - 35 Heat Resist
37 DMG - 40 Heat Resist 35 DMG - 45 Heat Resist 33 DMG - 52 Heat Resist 31 DMG - 59 Heat Resist 27 DMG - 69 Heat Resist 24 DMG - 79 Heat Resist 11 DMG - 119 Heat Resist I would *imagine* it is a base of 40 for 1-30 Resist. Reduces to 10 DMG at 120ish Resist. So normal lava seems to be correct, not used to having fire resist gear much since its rather useless. VP Damage is wrong though.

Thread is about lava damage inside VP, not outside.
I wondered why they bothered putting in long lava tube caves in the zone when you can't actually use them (you die within seconds in VP lava at any fire resist). Answer is the lava is supposed to do normal damage.

The server knows very little about how you're moving through a zone. Stuff like collision, knockback, levitation, falling damage, breath/drowning and lava damage are calculated and applied on the client side. On the other hand, the client does send a packet to the server saying when it has applied such damage, to keep the server in sync. This gives the server an opportunity to muck with the damage that ultimately gets applied a bit, but it's far from a perfect -- the damage has already been done as far as the client is concerned. The best the server can do is undo some of the damage and send out a new hp update for you. You would still see the amount of damage that the client decided on being done to you; the hp update from the server would cause your HP bar to ping-pong a bit; and the client may still force death if it believes this hit of lava damage should have killed you. Still, could be used as a quick bandage fix... I was poking at some of the client files today, hoping for the longshot of the increased damage being indicated and editable there. No luck, though. (There was one anomaly in the flag for VP's lava, but it turned out not to be meaningful.) Most likely there is some line of code in the client's lava damage function saying "if zone is VP, then multiply base damage by 5" or something like that. Would need to find that and write over it or something for a real fix. Ironically it's a lot easier to just turn lava into non-damaging water in the client files... [Tue May 05 19:35:43 2015] You were hit by non-melee for 158 damage.
[Tue May 05 19:35:43 2015] YOU are burning! [Tue May 05 19:35:43 2015] YOU are burning! [Tue May 05 19:35:44 2015] You were hit by non-melee for 158 damage. [Tue May 05 19:35:44 2015] YOU are burning! [Tue May 05 19:35:44 2015] YOU are burning! So unclassic. Also drowning and burning is giving double messages on this server, unsure why that is?

125 Fr is the number for minimum lava dmg outside of VP on p99 if that helps
