hit a skunk in my car once. smell was putrid, like toxic, it was so strong. everyone in the car smelled like skunk it was baked into our skin and clothes hair etc. came off of us no problem, but everytime getting into the car for 3 months it frigging reeked

Yeah it smells like burnt rubber/plastic when you're close up. Basically nothing like when you briefly pass it on the highway.

You never really get it all out, however, I had some decent success with hydrogen peroxide, soap and baking soda. Google those three ingredients + skunk and you should get the correct quantities.

I have had it happen to the same dog like 3 times. You'd think he would learn to stay the fuck away, but he runs right for a straight sniff of skunk ass hole every time...

He got it in the face once, and I felt so bad because he was pushing his head along the grass to try and get it off. I had to get buckets of water and dump over his face to help him.

Your dog is going to stink for a month, and then it is going to still smell a little bit if you get close for another month... There is no cure...

I came a little too close to a skunk once. It was like 3am, I had just picked up my 4 year old from his babysitter and was fumbling for my keys (lived in a secured building at the time) so I almost didnt even look when I heard him say "puppy!". Yeah it was a skunk, like 10 feet from us in the bushes. That would have fucking sucked... We got lucky but I empathize with anyone subjected to that stench, human or animal.

I dunno if it works for the same for skunks (or dogs). However when I got decomp smell on me. I took a REALLY hot shower. Scrubbed down with lemon juice to open up the pores really wide, and then dumped tomato juice into them. I still smelled, but not nearly as bad.

This worked for me. My dog has medium length hair. I shaved her, which she hated of course. For some reason dogs dont like electric motors with blades strapped on to them.
I used real Dawn. the blue stuff. Then i febreeze her and then gave her another Dawn bath. It worked for me. Now dont like soak your dog in febreeze like you do when your trying to avoid washing a blanket or something. Just lightly mist everything but her head.
If you must mist her head be careful of her eyes and nose. I recommend taping them shut with duct tape. If you dont wanna do that or are a peta member, spray a paper towel with it pretty good and scrub her head like a 4 day old dirty pan.
