Hurricane sandy, NJ. Live 2 blocks from the barnegat bay which flooded my house and ripped down my fence. I lost everything in my house cause I couldnt come back to my house for over 2 weeks due to natural gas leaks.
Also made and still makes me alot of money considering I own a carpet business. Blessing in disguise!
Thank gods for insurance, right? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I once got flooded with at least a 35 foot rise in flood bwater. We lived in a house on 11 foot stilts on top of a hill next to a river. Motherfucker got to the 2nd floor. The way the hurricane hit it was pushing all the baywater up the river and creating a massive floodplain. But thats hurricane livin

Hurricane Ike. Loved it. I'm a sick bastard that likes it when neighbors act neighborly and commune.

My homeowners only covered hurricanes, not super storms(wtf?). Only money I recieved was from fema. Fema only covered the sq ft of my house, not my possessions. Who made out was people who owned rentals, with other peoples stuff in their properties.

Some choice shots of the damage after a tornado that ripped through the town I live in a couple of years ago. My family was insanely lucky, you couldn't stand in any of our yards and find a direction to look where you couldn't see destroyed houses.

It's ok though, FEMA said it wasn't bad enough for any aid.

Actually wait! Closest thing that I lived thorugh was a wild fire that burnt down my entire town. This house in this image was my best friend at the times house, Patricks! Fun fact, his father was a super smart engineer, he had the first pair of 21 inch computer monitors I had ever seen, when my parents were shopping for som kinda mac piece of crap.

Anyway, this guy was against insurance of all types, so he built his home to be fire proof, or to be as fireproof as humanly possible. I guess during the fires he was terrified that he put effort into protecting his house from the neighbors house catching fire, he never expected ALL his neighbors houses to catch fire.

He surrounded it with iceplant, used metal framework, tile roof etc and holy shit, it fucking worked!

Well, here is a picture. Life in laguna beach after that fire was like living in the world that the Terminators came from, it was both awesome and terrifiying.. no wait it was just totlay awesome cus I was like 11 and I didn't give a fuck about things.

The ash in your volcano story reminded me of it. The city was covered in 6 inches of that grey snow. I ran home from school and grabbed our family dog, stayed at a friends house wondering how I would connect with my parrents. During the blaze my father got home, to get insurance papers and whatever he could. He was smart enough to check the answering machine and found out where I was and they came and picked me up.

We stayed at my grandmothers house south of Laguna that night. During the drive down my dad would joke about the dumb shit people grabbed from their homes in a panic, he pointed out some dudes car that we could see into that had an empty wine box container in it and we had a couple laughs.

The next morning we walked to the grocery store to pick up a few things since we didnt know how long we would be quarantined from the city. While walking with my parrents (who never walked anywhere, they must have been in shock) I turned around excited and shouted, "haha omg you know what I just realised?! WE COULD BE HOMELESS RIGHT NOW! LOL!" and my parents just kinda looked at me like I was an asshole.

I remember when I came home I looked at the hill above our house, and a wall of fire was traveling DOWN the hill at a pretty steady pace, that kinda blew my mind, so much heat and fire that it was traveling DOWN hill... I dont know how normal that is in a wild fire but it kinda blew my mind.

In the end our house and 3 of our neighbors houses didnt burn down. We were very lucky. Although, most homes that burnt down, had been rebuilt to be 10x better by the time I was in highscool into bigger and more modern kick ass houses with pools.

But apparently family heirlooms are more important than that, so my parents say. I never agreed [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Was that a good story, Sid? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
Oh yes, that definitely qualifies as a natural disaster. Thx for sharing even if parts of it made me laugh (lol sorry).

Until I saw for myself in the 2011 flood I never realized just how much damage water could do. The entire time I was packing to head for higher ground my husband was apologizing for not getting flood insurance. We've since remedied that. We ended up being the lucky ones.

You haven't lived til you've survived a hurricane (Andrew 1992), tornado (Texas panhandle 2010), volcano (Mt. St. Helens, WA 1980) and major flood (Wilkes Barre, PA 2011).
I would gladly go through another Katrina rather than to go through a tornado, volcano, or earthquake.
