People complain soooo much about PoK books, again, not that bad. It's home cities and OT/FV. Not that world ending.

If they hadn't put those in the amount of players who wouldn't have even explored classic zones when starting would've been huge.

Plus... This server may as well have those books. Do you know how often in classic you would see a non-Faydwer race in CB? Almost never. On this server all the time cause people have no reservations asking for a free port on their noob toon.

Same deal with Blackburrow or EC. EC was halfling, human and dark elf basically. On this server every race inhabits the zone (not talking traders, just exping).

There is still a large amount of travel in the game with books in. Plenty of zones are several zone lines and 10-15min runs away from books. If you are complaining about people having an easy time getting from Qeynos to Kelethin, sure. But almost no one makes that run on this server anyways. They get a port.

I'd love to see them disable Druid and wizard group ports for a week. Just to see people complain about having to classic travel.

for those who played at release, finding a port was a rare luxury. The majority of the time you had to walk it.

I would love to see this. The only time I ask for a port is when travel requires a boat. Call me crazy, I love running through Kithicor at night to get to HHP, and I love running through the Karanas stopping at the various camps that drop item loot to give away to noobs in BB and QHills.

There'll always be an ample supply of porters here though, gotta get on the EconomyQuest ladder etc.

To answer he OP:

EQMac was the best version there ever will be unfortunately. It's just SOE's infrastructure didn't support the old codebase and they didn't think they could profit when there were extra costs involved (which was dumb). Irony is now they are discussing making a PoP time locked server. When they should just resurrect Al'Kabor, make a PC client and charge a subscription. But they are too dumb for that.

After that got shut down, PEQ had a decent influx. But that server has MQ2 allowed so it's largely 20-boxed armies which are all automated. Which is dumb.

The TAKProject is using a legit EQMac client which is good but it's currently in open alpha (buggy/sort of unstable), and they are planning on releasing 1 expansion at a time to break up the workload. This means it won't be a true PoP server for quite awhile.

Agree with Daldaen.

Are you involved in the TAK project? I loved EQ Mac, and wish I would have played it more.

Books were a really big help for noobs...but they honestly didn't help all that much when you looked at the expansion continents. You still needed a Druid/Wiz or a lot of running to get way out into Kunark, Velious, and Luclin. A book could drop you at specific places in these zones, but you usually had to hoof it afterwards to get to Seb, WW, Ssra, etc.

I remember seeing a high level wizard once in Qeynos Hills. Right after server up. He gated out shortly after.

I ran two half-elves from Qeynos to Kelethin because porters weren't plentiful. That's classic at launch travel. Having to run yourself. Banking all your gear and money except for some food, water and a rusty weapon.

But if that's classic travel to people they basically are saying "no, I don't want to have the option to take a PoK book, instead I want to annoy someone to take time out of their day to save me a long run".

Yea I'm on there occasionally. Was on there before they wiped closed alpha and I tested a few things but I'd like to test more. Mac was indeed the shit. Classic client/code and best expansion as the final one. You couldn't get more perfect. Really wish they'd Rez it and charge subscription.

Look, I like PoP, but I don't like the PoK books. Its a reasonable opinion to have. You don't agree. Fine. I'm not saying anyone should be annoyed about anything. Besides, some of your porter bretheren would be very happy to be annoyed by paying customers. And also, in the very early days I used to run people from Qey to FP for tips, I know all about what you are calling classic travel.
