I had the exact same issue 5 days ago and running Duxa's installer fixed it.

How do you select your EQ shortcut that has the patchme line still in-tact for this? Whenever I try to set up a new EQ profile within WEQ2, it doesn't allow me to select my desktop shortcut. Apparently it wants a directory. But I can't select my EQ directory since then it simply uses the regular eqgame.exe or whatever. And from what I can tell, there's no way to add the patchme line to the actual, non-shortcut'd version, of the file.

Halp?

Try to set the game to windowed mode from ini file and launch.

Or launch options editor, set windowed and lower the resolution to lowest possible and launch.
