The simplest answer: those who want Defiant gear can join the live servers (you can even help Arias escape the Mines of Gloomingdeep!). Those of us who don't want Defiant gear (because we understand the definition of Classic EverQuest) can stay on Project 1999.

LOL they did do Defiant briefly on Fippy while my friends and I were there (OoW era) still outdid most of the gear at that time.

I was using a swiftblade of zek and some other sweet stuff farmed highkeep for weeks and then defiant came out in the tutorial and the staff didn't want to fix it, so all these lvl 10s were better geared than any of our toons 60-70
