Hybrid xp penalty in many ( not all) cases is offset by your ability to do things when no groups or partteners can be found. The only drawback to some of these is lower total power at higher levels (think rangers) in a single area and the fact that they will decrease the relative xp gains of those you can group with.
If a group is looking for just dps they'll gravitate to a rogue vs a ranger if all else is considered equal. But, that ranger can solo and bring in utility that other classes cannot.
Play what interests you. If you dont like what youre playing (or how you are playing), try something new. If eq live taught me anything over the last 15 years its that being or getting to max level does not equate to fun. This is one of the things that early eq got right. Level 20 is just as fun as level 50 or 60. Enjoy the road... In a real mmorpg thats the key to enjoying the game.
