![]() Having had my own bouts with serious depression on and off throughout my life, I can tell you its not easy. Most people won't understand and haven't been in that situation.
You have to be pretty stable emotionally in order to get the most out of college. It sounds like its just compounding the issue. I went to college right after highschool and it didn't work out well. About 5 years afterwards I went back and did much, much better. I had become much more emotionally stable and driven after a few crappy jobs to get an education. Are your parents paying for college? If so, that sounds like its the root of their frustration and why they yell so much at you. Paying for it out of your own pocket makes it more real and you take it more seriously as well. Something to consider. Spend time doing hobbies that you truly enjoy. For me, it was photography, hiking, and teaching myself MSDOS (I'm dating myself now). I still enjoy them to this day and find my inner-peace while doing them. The idea is that you want to stop the spiraling affect of sadness into depression. Focusing on something else helps that. After a while you'll notice that as soon as sadness is triggered, you are already in the habit of shifting that emotion to something else more positive. It sounds like you need to ditch your friends or at least stand up for yourself in front of them and see how it plays out. Above all, never forget, it really does get better down the road. You just may have to make some changes to get there.

And some hardcore atheists may disagree, but the happiest people share two things in common: meaningful friendships, and religion. Places of worship are great places to find both [You must be logged in to view images. You can do this through therapy (I suggest cognitive/behavioral), practicing meditation/prayer, picking up a hobby like learning a musical instrument, or reading a ton if that's your thing. Depression and anxiety are among the most easily treatable mental conditions, but they take a lot of time and sincere effort. Take things one day at a time. Any small step toward improvement should be celebrated.

![]() I go thru life with the realization that if another human can do it, than so can I (and probably better). That has helped immensely, and I'll surely be making 100k+ a year in no time.

![]() Eh, even if it is a troll thread it's still a worth replying because of the odds someone who actually has depression will read it. Have talked to more than a few players in game who've run into this issue, so it wouldn't be too surprising.
Just reiterating what has already posted here but yeah, a therapist really helps, someone with an outside perspective who isn't a douche. Exercise gives control over at least one aspect in your life and it's immediate and tangible, unlike college or planning out your future. Exercise and add in music. You'd be surprised how much a long jog with a good soundtrack can help. Get more sleep if you aren't, exercise will make it easier. Don't force yourself into social situations you aren't adept at but instead look for people with shared interests so you can start to distance yourself from the situation at home. Comparing your situation to others only works short-term for perspective imo. Forcing yourself to feel less bad about your situation just because someone else is worse off makes about as much sense as feeling less happy about your situation because someone else is better off. And even if you did do that you still wouldn't have anyone to relate to, whereas even people in third world countries have that, for better or worse. If you can't find a therapist or anyone you can talk to than check out different authors and artists. Also, consider community college or a technical school if you haven't. The lower tuition costs and smaller classes should decrease stress levels, than you can set short-term goals, work on achieving a 3.75gpa and whatnot. Once you've done that, hopefully the situation at home will have improved or you'll have other options available. | ||

![]() yes, mental health disorders affects everyone, even people not suffering directly, you are suffering indirectly. And it is great to bring the issue to the fore-front
