Red isn't for everyone. Rolling on red with no pals, no gear, and no guild support network is like going into BUDS and hoping to come out a Navy Seal. The attrition rate is massive. I started here solo and made some pals along the way, fellow new players without a pot to piss in, out of 15 that I met somewhere between collecting bonechips and cb belts and City of Mist, I think 3 still log in.

Red has lots of flaws, you outlined many of them that are beaten to death on the forums on a daily basis, but a lot of the equation falls with the player who chooses to roll here.
+/- 4, increased EXP, and maybe shielding them from the harsh server realities that are ejaculated across their ooc chat box might help in player retention but at the end of the day most ring the bell because they don't like being PKed (and refer to it as being griefed) or don't like a highly competitive environment.

I agree server needs to be more casual. I was dumb to think otherwise. I'll admit XP nerf was a real bad move. And that anything else to make it more hardcore and less blue is dumb.
