wouldnt humans be the best race for enchanters end game?
Assuming CHA and INT is maxed, STA is the only stat left to raise. This is ignoring the value of the dark elf's hide however.

Stamina is a bad stat to invest starting points to as any int caster. You'll only get ~2hp/stamina at 50 or 60 and less than 1 hp/stamina in the early levels - yes, less than 1. You'll get a better overall effect and more hp by investing points into your primary stat, maxing it with gear investments and then choosing hp/mana or flat hp gear once the stat is to your liking.

So true on the stamina front. Absolute waste of points. Put it in int or cha, then when you do max them you won't need to have as many slots dedicated to them and can fill them with hp / mana gear.

Troll and Max Dexterity.
(just kidding). I played a DE and Gnome enchanter on diff servers. Both good. Hide's ok to break charm, but you get invis at an early level and it works just fine as well. Gnomes can 'tinker' - which can be a fun tradeskill. They are small and it makes moving around seem easier. Consider that the enchanter can look like any race anytime. So... really don't matter a ton. IMO. But most of the above comments have merit - High Elves get a great CHA to start out of the box with, but if it's anything like EQLive most enchanters are HE. Erudite's cool too - and DE as well, with their starting INT, you can dump points into CHA if you like. Personally, I still put points into STA either way. Sure - it's not the greatest return but you may have a few more HP than another with the same gear.. so meh... STA beats dexterity at least for an enchanter, lol.

Sta is a good place for stat points if you're min-maxing for down the line, when cha/int are easily maxed. IDK, the stats on insidious are pretty crazy. I'd think you'd be max cha and soft capped on int and taking a few mana items whatever your starting stats are here in classic. I know every ench I know is maxish cha, I don't think they have like <170 int or something. (take into account that in situations where you'll need the mana you could buff your int)
Also, don't think it's been fully spelled out: the utility of hide to break charm is - you don't have to wait 2 seconds to cast, so you can stop the angry ex-pet with a spell faster.
