Kedge wasn't properly itemized or tuned on launch. There's a picture of Aradune saying he is glad it's itemized to some group there on the interwebs.

Found it!

So would everyone's damage spam go into that single window along with the chat?

Yeah, or you could turn certain things off completely.

Oh man that UI was so awful, but very reminiscent of games like Wizardry. All the zones were discovered by the end of beta (likely the source of that screenshot).

Speaking of itemization though, Vox didn't drop anything the first time she was killed =p

That screen isn't from Beta - it's at least a few months after release since FoH wasn't created until then.

Where's Elderan in that pic? He was the first person to box, first character created in EverQuest, first level 60, and first person to turn in his newbie note. Surprised to not see him there.

Stoemhammer was awesome when it launched, there were gm events constantly. That lasted maybe two months.

I think that was the essence of what made me fall in love with EQ way back in the beginning. The world was so huge and there was this feeling that there was still so much to discover. I remember being 13 years old having sleepovers with the friend who introduced me to EQ and we would have these long discussions about what we thought might be at the bottom of OOT or if there were dungeons still waiting to be found. I loved it.
