If you intend on soloing get a 2hander. If you intend on grouping, 2 handed is pretty useless.

Seconded

AC is borked here and most paladin agro is spells so 2handed weapons work well.

Perhaps I am working off how it should work...

AC being borked does devalue shield AC. Also broken weapon/cast timing also increases the value of 2hander for hybrid.

If they manage to fix the hybrid casting bug then that would make 2h much less valuable (atleast slow 2h).

Here are some more Classic (no-kunark) Shields (the first couple are unrealistic though):

http://wiki.project1999.com/Efreeti_War_Shield
http://wiki.project1999.com/Giant_Laceless_Sandal (you should get this and SS it, I wanna see what it looks like wielded)

Few 2h options (though 2h SUCKED in classic):

http://wiki.project1999.com/Mithril_Two-Handed_Sword (as has been said a few times, one of the best for classic)

http://wiki.project1999.com/Brilliant_Sword_of_Faith (part of SoulFire)
http://wiki.project1999.com/Deepwater_Harpoon (realtively easy quest actually)

Blunt weapons suck even more:

Ok, Brilliant Sword of faith. How many people does it take to kill Lucan?

Going off his wiki values he could probably be solo'd by most lvl 60s.

It sounds like I have been overruled!

I just got so annoyed with tanks who would use 2-hander against hard hitting stuff and wonder why they died. Herpderp Shield AC is awesome cause it goes over softcaps. Plus it is like having another slot of gear for HP/Stats/AC generally speaking. (And mostly this was after the Shield Block AA was added, which was enormous mitigation)

For soloing, I can see 2-Handers being good. When I soloed my paladin up through classic levels I just used a Ghoulbane for most of it until 50ish. I think my rationale back then (probably 2000-2001~) was that I spent a large amount of time camping Ghoulbane and the proc was so fancy. And I also figured Ghoulbane out DPSed any 2hander I had access to at the time. With Baton of Faith being as cheap as it is, no harm in grabbing one and testing it out though! Probably out DPSes Ghoulbane with bad Dex.
