I have noticed the same trend as OP.

I started in 2012, and it is a little different now than it was then, but with EQmac shutting down (I believe) and perhaps the yearly rush of new players, it is bound to happen!

But yeah, I have friends who have been having issues with camps and rude people in general. A lot of "U mad bro?" flying around as well as "Learn 2 play".

But hey, I suppose you got to take the bad with the good! /petition

There definitely has been an influx of assholes on the server lately. Probably most of them alts of the hardcore raid people. You can sense their "entitlement" attitude a mile away.

Children don't like it when they have a sandbox where they are not governed by parental figures and get to be the bullies, then are suddenly faced with parental figures (GM's) enforcing parental rules and the spoiled brats who do not like this one bit are spreading their misguided anger around.

...and even more of them playing forum quest.

Be prepared for lots of them to use rule lawyering to grief you and get away with it. Load that fraps and keep it running if you are camping anything important, and timestamp often, cause screenshots don't mean shit.

I've only been playing for a few months so I couldn't say how things have changed over the years but overall, the community is quite good with some a-holes thrown in for good measure.

The community is absolutely outstanding when compared with other more modern mmo's that I've played (FFXIV anyone?).

the OP wasn't saying they HAD to do it, he was saying that they were jerks which they completely are. everyone has the right to be an asshole and you can't do anything about it, but let's not forget that they are indeed pieces of shit that make this game worse for everyone else.

I used to put together groups a lot more than I do now. That /who all bug is just so damn annoying when searching for people.
There's also some people like myself who have alts created just for grouping with friends. I don't want to invite you to my mnk/shm duo. Not because I won't appreciate you as a group member but because I'm literally playing my monk for the purposes of a duo.

I am a noob to the server, started latest year, and I've seen the jerks people are mentioning. I think others can understand that perhaps older players with multiple 60s are looking for a new way to run through the game, like your duo option, but I don't understand taking up popular camps for full groups when there are so many other zones that could present a challenge for that play style. Cazic Thule for example is a challenging zone that isn't super popular... Anyway just my 2 cents.

yeah.

only a few classes can solo effectively untwinked, so excluding the rest from getting a typical amount of exp, at the expense of a very slight amount from you is a dick move, especially considering the scarcity of mobs in general. P99 was supposed to be the last bastion of encouraged cooperation and dependence in MMOs and the solo-twinks, PLers and min-maxers ruin it for people that want to play the class they think is cool.

min-maxers roll their eyes whenever someone brings up the casual EQ player or the newbie on their first character who hasn't been studying the game for 15 years, but those newbies are the ones playing for enjoyment and are getting shafted for a minor gain by the folks racing to another max-level character that view 1-59 as a chore.

go play every other mmo so you don't have to talk to people.
