I'm sure I'll get some backlash for this, but my recommendation is to avoid PVP as much as possible until you're level 60.

EQ is the most unbalanced PVP game ever made until that time. The difference between fighting a level 33 and level 34 shaman for example is ridiculous.

There is really nothing to gain from attacking people when you're both trying to level up. You're just slowing your progress to get to when the game actually gets interesting. Even if your intent is just to come here and PVP, the good stuff isn't until 55+ anyway.
