Is "pop" vs "soda" maybe an age thing? Both my mom and I grew up in Colorado, but she calls it pop and I call it soda.
Colorado? Littleton native here. Great state.

My mom grew up in Littleton and the surrounding areas for most of her lives!

I'm from the Springs, unfortunately.

In South Carolina it's coke, you have to specify what kind of "coke" you want if there are options.

I blame marketing, general stupidity and an unwillingness to change because it really is kind of dumb. (oh and the coca-cola factory being just a short ways away)

Colorado is definitely predominately a "pop" state. Wonder how I picked up soda.

Since you used the word "world" in your question, my English friends call them fizzy drinks.

While I am not one of your English friends, I can confirm that we English do call them fizzy drinks.
