sounds pretty likely you're having a connection issue. on wifi by chance?

also, pretty strange that you couldn't install wineq2, did you try installing it as an administrator? You MUST right click and hit run as admin to do this.

Thumbs up Definitely solved :-)

Good evening all.

First off, thank you to Lyra and gotrocks for your input.

I fiddled around a little more this evening and can now connect without error and stable in play for about 2 1/2 hours so that all seems good now.

Final conclusion:
1) had to force PC to use single core of processor via msconfig and reboot.
2) running in Windows 2000 compatibility mode - don't know why the XP modes weren't working but hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right??
3) running in windowed mode, 1024 x 780 resolution.

Quite right Lyra - Aussie based but I don't think that was the issue.

Yes gotrocks, tried WinEQ as admin, that worked ok it was the attempt to update DirectX that was failing.....that said everything seems to be good now so I'd probably call the matter closed.

imo, It's probably the OS you're running and not the laptop. Reasoning behind this is directx failing. I would recommend running p99 on an XP machine unless you're fine with being kicked every couple of hours (if that's still happening). But I actually think I recall having a similar problem that was due to resolutions being out of sync between my desktop and the game itself. After changing that I was able to play harmlessly. I'll post back when I get home from a regrettable outing today so you can compare if you would like.
