Hey Hippo,
I'm an old veteran of the game, and when I found out about this project, I wanted to share the game with my girlfriend. She loves playing a druid because they are versatile, can teleport places (she gets lost easily) and make great duo partners for casters. It also helps that she liked playing a wood elf because she thinks they are cute. I play an enchanter with her, but I imagine a necro / druid combo could be pretty effective considering your DoTs should stack, and she can heal and sow you / be a utility player while fighting anything. Hope this helps! P.S. If she starts in Kelethin, just make an alt to show her around and get her to 12 or so then play your necro.

For a mage, one thing that always stuck out when I managed (rarely) to be in a duo was when the other person was playing a wizard. It isn't the duo set up to be the most efficient, but god it was fun. The pet didn't really need to heal or tank reliably with how quickly things would die. The burst damage was just beautiful.
Druids can effectively duo with anyone, so they're never really a bad choice.

Someone that is new to the game might get turned off by the spell researching that has to be done for a Mage. Druids, just go buy their spells. It is an easy way to go as a caster.

Druid and necro is an extremely strong duo that complement each other well. If she does want a druid, then just make a mage to play with her till she hits 16 and switch.
If she wants a mage and you are just going to make a random class to get the mage up to level 16, the BEST choice is probably another mage.. I'm sure Jify would agree with me [You must be logged in to view images. For a first character that is fun, go Wizard. They are not complicated and are easy to learn. Later on she can switch to another class if she wants, but a Wizard lets her learn the game faster than more complicated classes. (And you can make a Pally for grouping with her.)

I personally LOVE duoing with enchanters as a mage. It's a super fun duo with the CC, tankage, slows, pet heals, and tons of mana. Mage is an easier class to start off with, too, so she might have a better time with that. I don't think early mage research has been too hard to level, but if you don't want to, there are also plenty of mages who will do research for you if you have the mats which you pick up fairly easily leveling. Otherwise I have seen druid/nec do some pretty cool stuff.

Well I'm going to give her a choice of a druid or mage. I will make an enchanter to level up with her and then switch to my necro once she is my level. I'm cool with her being either one.
My necro is only level 16, I was thinking if she chooses mage I might just stick with enchanter cause mage/enchanter combo sounds really good for duo camping at max level. If she chooses druid no doubt I will switch back to my necro cause necro/druid is a badass duo. I grouped with a druid last night and we could basically chain pull even/yellow fights in oasis.

Nec/Dru is an amazing duo, plus the convenience is awesome... but yeah. You'll probably have more fun just finding the char she enjoys more.
