far too many hours to try and make money doing it. Unless you know someone in the market for a $500 walking stick. :P

I've made a few walking sticks but I didn't put much time into them. My first was a dead oak branch I cut off, sanded a little and put some wood stain on it. Maybe an hour of total time in that one.

Made one out of cedar and I've made two out of hedge (or osage orange but everyone I've ever known has called them hedge trees).

Yours' looks nice but isn't peach a very weak wood?

Quite to the contrary, many species of Prunus (the stone fruits, mainly) have some of the hardest, toughest, heaviest, and most impact resistant wood in the world - in fact Blackthorn, the preferred stock for making traditional shillelaghs is Prunus spinosa aka Sloe. Many fruit trees (deciduous, fruit bearing "hardwood") have these qualities. For instance, Persimmon is perhaps the hardest wood native to north america. Exceptions exist obviously (hickory, some kinds of maple, black locust, hawthorne, etc), but stone fruit wood is an extremely good type of wood from which to choose weapon stocks.
