It didn't sound to me like he was bragging. Depending on where you live (cost of living), 50k/year is more than enough to live off of comfortably. Obviously so if he has a decent house and has the luxury to play video games to his hearts content.

I would need permission from Rogean and Nilbog to do anything remotely like that, not to mention I didn't back up the p1999 database locally because that would be with no good intentions and would've had me fired in a heartbeat.

Once you get your server stable, and everything figured out pvp wise... should see if this is an option as R99 seems... forgotten.
