I think the "floor" for attraction increases more slowly than physical age does. For example, I was plenty attracted to 12 year olds when I was 12 myself, but at my age I look at such a person and my eyes only see "kid," no attraction whatsoever. I bet that applies to you as well. My wife was 16 when I met her and while my eyes still register her old photographs as pretty, neither would I want to date that teenage kid anymore, either. The floor has gone up, just not as fast as the years have.

Generation/culture gap also reduces the real attractiveness of a lot of younger folks once those 20 year olds are decades rather than years younger. I see plenty of theoretically pretty 20's-looking gals who're completely ruined by being tattoo'd up tramps or dressing like slobs and I feel only disgust for them, not attraction. At the same time as you age you can appreciate people like well-kept 50 year olds when 20-year-old you wouldn't have looked twice.

I could see a 40's age range peak for married couples where familiarity and experience is also a significant factor. Probably not so much for singles.

Sure, but at some point a woman becomes over-age just like she was at one stage under-age. It works both ways, or should.

If as an adult male you prefer fucking a 90 year old woman to fucking a beautiful 16/18/21 year old woman there's something wrong with you.

For me if it’s purely physical then I’m going to go with what is objectively the most attractive, and that’s usually pretty obvious. Older can be hotter, but they have to work harder at it if so. Such is life

But very few relationships for me are purely physical, so personality matters, and that’s why I go -10 +5 roughly. Because any lower or higher than that and we usually lack a lot of common ground, and much younger people I find sometimes too immature/annoying

The thing that makes people’s opinion on older people especially older women vary so wildly is there can be a huge amount of discrepancy on the amount of aging based on someone’s lifestyle

Someone might be picturing a 45yr old who smoked all through her teens and 20’s and now drinks to excess every weekend and never exercises, who probably looks more like 50. While the other person could be picturing the complete opposite

I'd re-word that as saying that an ordinary man won't regard that 90 year old as attractive as a 25 year old (as dating older folks is indeed justifiable for many reasons, such as being old oneself), but having made that change, I agree. There's a floor, and there's a ceiling, and while both of those things may change with age and from one individual to the next, they very much exist and will only change so much within limits created by nature and human instinct.

One day we will likely develop technology sufficient to reduce aging's effects to where such concerns change. Maybe one day 90 won't matter anymore. I don't think I'll still be around long enough to see it, but we'll get there eventually. Even today, lifestyle and technology changes mean there are probably a larger number of attractive 50 year olds, now, than there were attractive 40 year olds 150 years ago. Maybe our ghosts can re-visit this thread another 150 years henceforth.
