This thread is a good example of why the population is so low.

How fucking soft would you have to be to let a playerbase decide whether or not you want to play a video game? I'm so sick and tired of people crying that it's the playerbases fault for new players not wanting to play here. You think people who love eq pvp are going to come here and quit because someone was immature on the forums or because they got PKed by a twink as they were leveling their first char? For every moron on this server there is 3 people that are helpful and mature. No amount of griefing would ever make me quit. No amount of ooc spam would ever make me leave this server.

Poeple come here to PVP, then realize its going to take them 5 months to be able to pvp on their shadowknight.

What happened when XP was boosted the first time? Major player influx. What happened when they removed it? People started leaving. It's leveled off somewhat because finally, guilds have almost caught up to nihilum in levels. There is pvp and people are logging in to enjoy it. Want more people? Cut new players a break and lower the time it takes for them to get involved.

A good MMO (like EQ) is all about the playerbase. The friends you make, the enemies you make, and the ways you can interact with them and help to shape the community. That's what I like about EverQuest, though I accept that others feel differently. Many players here treat the game (for lack of a better example) like a FPS deathmatch game, and if the community sucks they don't care because at least they're getting killshots. But some people do agree with me, and quite a few of them have expressed their opinions:

When you see a thread wherein posters reminisce about "the old days" of VZTZ, and then watch as it devolves into whiny complaints of "our douchbaggery was technically legal!" and mudslinging contests, it's really no surprise to me that server population is suffering. Leveling is even slower on blue, and their population is just fine. We're playing the same game as them, but with an added element of pvp. Really we should have a higher population :/

No it's treated as eq pvp, something that is nothing like an FPS. It's not waves of meaningless battle ground pvp with no reward. Here pvp is used to decide who gets to fight raid mobs, it is used to determine who is the best at what class, it is to determine who is the better guild. The bitching and gloating you see after - is simply the way people get the better of their opponents. You dont get this, because you're on the outside looking in and so is everyone from the blue server you took that poll from. You arent involved in the high end pvp over the planes or dragons, which has only really started happening consistently in the last few weeks. You're doing the same thing the p1999 staff does, they look at the red populaton in comparison to the blue one - many players on red never have nor ever will have a character on blue because eq pve alone, absolutely does not interest them. Those are the type of players this server needs to attract - not blue conver,s because ultimately blue converts wont last.

The people that play on the blue server are no more mature than the people on red, the subject of the whining is just different - instead they whine about epic mob rights and pve poopsocking. The only reason you find people more inclined to help others on blue is because on red, there is always that chance they'll end up your enemy (or that they already are in alt form). Your efforts on red are better served aiding your own guild. This is why you see the bitching, because guild members stick up for one another on red, id argue that the community on red is even tighter and stronger than that on blue.

As far as your arguement regarding xp, you've completely missed my point. On blue the objective is to enjoy pve. On red people come here to pvp at the max level. NO ONE is here to "enjoy the leveling ride" from 1-55.

I've pvped for raid rights, trust me. And I know Sirken has too, with his VZ background.

Who are you to say which type of player the server needs to attract? Variety is the spice of life, if you ask me.

Red is actually a pretty friendly group of people, and I've received more help there than I did leveling on blue. It's that vocal and abrasive minority, and the community's acceptance of them, that suck pretty hard.

Please understand that you don't speak for everyone. It seems the majority of current players do agree with you, and that makes me a little sad because I miss the old days on live. EQ is EQ, and you can't minimize one aspect of it (leveling, raiding, pvp) without taking away some of its magic. I think the server could use more bluebies, we're very unbalanced as things are.

The leveling ride from 1-55 wasn't about being fun in and of itself, imo; it was about making lots of e-friends and spending time really getting to know each other. That's harder to do here with such a low population, and I don't disagree with a group xp bonus to encourage this interaction, but the game does feel somewhat neutered with the bonus and antisocial soloing behavior (that I'm guilty of too). We put up with the xp rates on live, why are we so against playing the game here?

I'd like to know when exactly pve became a four letter word, because I remember having some great times bullshitting in xp groups and killing dragons.

Well to me its all mixed together, im am enjoying the leveling ride BECAUSE it is heavily sprinkled with large doses of pvp sessions like it was on Rallos, which doesnt happen here because of xp loss in pvp. So i gave up playing my level 57 shaman, let alone start a new class to "enjoy the leveling ride" again which i wont enjoy because devs dont get (well Nilbog seems to get it) fun pvp is the essence of EQ pvp. Not some fucking duels organized by Sirken (no offense, i like your events) thats not EQ pvp. Daily, regular, back and forth tugs of war for camp control, Hot(pvp)zones like crushbone and Queynos Hills/Blackburrow where everyone is duking it out for hours, thats EQ pvp.
