I am pretty sure riding out a hurricane at or near sea level is a different scenario than riding on an airplane, but I haven't flown anywhere since July 2021 so I can't be sure.
I might also be skeptical of bothering to evacuate after so many mostly false alarms, but if I see dead kids floating on the news it's gonna make me feel bad. Anyways, for those there now, alea iacta est and all that.

1,833 people died during Hurricane Katrina, which is like 1,100 less than 9/11

And going back to my airplane example, that's like you saying "Well 200 people died on Delta flight 576, so ALL flights are dangerous!!"

I can't tell if you are trying to convince me that you have made the right decision by not evacuating or yourself. I don't know, I'm in my pajamas up here in Atlanta, watching the Braves game, dry as a bone.
It's irrelevant. You are there. Odds are you'll be fine, like you said. I've been on hundreds of flights, thousands of car rides, and a handful of boats. I've even been bungee jumping.

Most of the time, the rest of the country never knows when we have them because they're never this large. Sometimes there are multiple a year. One of the worst in recent history (in the early 90s) only killed 65 people. I've known people who lost homes, and my Aunt's windows just blew out like an hour ago - but all that happens even if you evacuate.
